The leader of Lancashire County Council is urging the county's residents and businesses to have their say on plans for a major development of the Cuerden strategic site at the start of the M65, in conjunction with Eric Wright Group, which could bring 4,500 jobs and furniture giant IKEA to the county.

The development could also attract other well-known national retailers, major employers, restaurants, offices and housing, along with cycling and walking routes and new green spaces, subject to planning permission.

County Councillor Jennifer Mein, Leader of Lancashire County Council, said: “As we announced on Friday last week, this is a very exciting potential development but we need to make absolutely sure that we get the planning application right.

“I’d urge local people to get down to one of the consultation events, which start on Thursday 17 November, or look at the plans on the website – www.thisiscuerden.co.uk – which will also go live on Thursday. We are planning to submit the planning application before the end of the year and by getting involved in the consultation local people and businesses can help us identify and address any potential issues and make sure that the application is as good as it can be.”

Public exhibition events are being held this week, as follows:

  • Thursday 17 November – South Ribble Borough Council offices, Banqueting Suite, Leyland – 2pm-8pm
  • Friday 18 November – St Catherine’s Hospice, Garden Room, Cuerden – 2pm-8pm
  • Saturday 19 November – The Harris, Rotunda Area, Preston – 10am-4pm

Further information will be available from Thursday 17 November on the consultation website www.thisiscuerden.co.uk. People with questions regarding the development can contact the development team on 0800 089 0362 or by emailing info@thisiscuerden.co.uk.
