Stanifield Lane roundabout near Lostock Hall will be closed on selected nights in August, as the improvement work nears completion.

Lancashire County Council has announced that the roundabout on the A582, at the junction of Lostock Lane and Stanifield Lane, will close temporarily overnight to allow resurfacing work to be carried out safely and with minimum disruption.

Some of the roads approaching the roundabout will also be closed on certain nights.

This is the final stage of improvement work at the junction to improve pedestrian and cycling facilities and provide more space for traffic by widening the approaches to the roundabout and creating more lanes.

Temporary overnight road closures will be in place between 8pm and 5am, on the following nights:

* Friday 7 August – Sunday 9 August
Full closure of Lostock Lane westbound from London Way to Stanifield Lane roundabout
Full closure of Farington Road westbound from Stanifield Lane roundabout to the junction with Sherdley Road

* Monday 10 August
Full closure of Stanifield Lane from Stoney Lane to the junction with Lostock Lane

*Tuesday 11 August
Lane closures on Farington Road and Lostock Lane eastbound

*Wednesday 12 August
Full closure of Watkin Lane from Lostock bridge, to the junction with Lostock Lane.

Phil Wilson, project manager for the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal, said: “The resurfacing of the road is a major milestone in these improvements, which are nearly complete. The work is expected to be substantially completed by late August.

“The improvement work was started last year by the county council to increase the capacity of the A582 and reduce delays on this key route in and out of Preston.

“We’ll be directing road users along diversionary routes for local and through traffic. However, the weight restriction will remain in place for Lostock Hall, and heavy goods vehicles will not be directed through the village.

“We’re working hard to reduce any disruption and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience. We hope that people will bear with us while this improvement work takes place.

The Stanifield Lane work is part of a wider scheme to upgrade the A582 – one of the four major road schemes included in the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal.

As part of this, road widening is currently taking place on a section of Golden Way (A582) between Cop Lane and the Broad Oak roundabout, next to Booth’s supermarket.
